Well, this was a mellow start … not too Rambo-ish … but enough to get a feel for us hiking as a team (minus Paul M – Foot Man!) … getting comfortable with our gear & what to pack (Khilan – BRING WATER !!) … and frankly, seeing where our bodies are as far as conditioning. I think we were all surprised at our condition … but then again, this was not exactly a break-neck effort and certainly not anything remotely close to what a 100K would feel like. But still, we learned a lot from it.

Not knowing how far we are going to make it in this madness, we are going to take credit for every bit of achievement … so here we are at our first 10K … of TRAINING !!

Our First 10K

Paul W. certainly did a bang up job of being the navigator. Our overall time should have been better if it were not for a couple of trail-deviations … which were not due to Paul … the book/guide (Day Walks Near Tokyo) was last revised in 1992 (!!) and there were some conflicting signs on the way. Also, we took a couple of breaks which were quite leisurely … except for Paul’s brief “systems check” !!

Anyone looking? Navigating the woods!

As for lessons learned, Paul has started listing a few of the critical Snailwalking Rules.

Finally, our overall conditioning seemed pretty good at the end … even though I was seriously looking forward to an Onsen and a massage !

Already looking forward to the next one. But the question remains … Could we do something seven times longer and certainly tougher? … stay tuned …
