Having never done anything as insane as this, I did quite a bit of reading on the type of gear needed to survive a 100k event. As the team has not decided on what type of support mechanism we will have along the way, I will make adjustment to “what I carry” as we move further along our planning and training leading up to the event.
This inventory is a “work in progress” … until the starting gun. (I wish I could borrow it !!)
Watch – Polar S625X Multisport Computer (Heart rate monitor & foot pod)
Shoes – Montrail Hurricane Ridge XCR
Socks – Thorlo CoolMax Light Hiking (YES! Proper ones are critical for a 100k)
Backpack – The North Face Ray 20
Nightlight – Petzl Tikka Plus 4-LED (Can’t imagine holding a flashlight for hours)
Water Bottle – Sigg Traveler (1.0 liter)
Hydration Pack – CamelBak Omega HydroTanium Reservoir (2.0 liter)
Knee Brace – Zamst ZK-3 Medium Level Support
Hiking Poles – Decided against them … too tempting to whack a team member in those dire moments (i.e. 2 hours into the event !!)
